Destiny Drive Interim Safety Improvements Installation
Beginning the Week of September 22

Work is currently planned to begin the week of September 22, 2025 to install the interim safety improvements along Destiny Drive between Mineral Springs Circle and Gum Spring Road in the Kirkpatrick Farms and Stone Ridge communities.

The County’s Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure has confirmed that permits were approved by VDOT earlier this week, allowing the contractor to get started. It is expected that work will be completed by no later than December 15, 2025. Please exercise caution while driving through the area during this time and be aware of changes in areas where parking is permitted.

The project will include the following:

  • Trimming of vegetation as needed to maintain sight lines at all intersections
  • Pavement markings (centerline and shoulder/parking lane striping) for the length of the corridor
  • “No parking” signs and area expansion for the following intersections on Destiny Drive: Green Mountain Terrace/Moreland Mine Terrace, Opportunity Drive/Eloquence Terrace, Supreme Drive, Possibility Way, and Oribi Place

This project implements the first phase of recommendations made in the Destiny Drive Corridor Safety Study that was completed in 2024. The study identified these short-term interim improvements as items that could be done within existing right of way without extensive construction. Supervisor Matt Letourneau secured $650,000 in FY24 Fund Balance in January 2025 to fund the project.

Longer-term recommendations such as raised crosswalks, center islands, and a signal at the Gum Spring intersection will be considered for funding as part of the Board’s Capital Improvement Plan discussion in the spring of 2026.
